LSI stands for Latent Semantic Indexing and is one of the ways through which search engines often try to understand and represent language in a mathematical fashion. LSI is primarily based on similarities between pages and keyword occurrences. There may be instances where the search query may not even be present in relevant search results, and yet the result may be fetched solely on the basis of similar or relevant words which may appear in relevant pages containing the search terms.
