There are certain websites which are found guilty of fraudulent practices such as spamming. Such websites are then red flagged by search engines and subsequently prevented from ranking high in the search index. This process is commonly known as penalizing or banning. The nature of these penalties could either be manual or they could be applied via an automated algorithm. Penalized websites, especially the ones which have been penalized via the algorithm have the alternative of fixing the issue which led to the ban. Successful fixing of the issue will then lead to the removal of the ban after some time. However, in case of manually penalized websites, the ban may last for an unnaturally long period of time, which will only be resolved via contacting the search engine or requesting a re-inclusion.
