SSI stands for Server Side Includes and is an intuitive way to call for certain sections of a page from another page. Using SSI, it becomes much more convenient to install updates on websites. There are certain limitations though, for to use SSI, you must meet either of the following conditions-

  • file name must end with .shtml or .shtml extension
  • usage of a programming language that makes it easier to include files such as PHP
  • change of .htaccess file to process .html files as if they were .shtml files
